Self-neglect is a complex phenomenon
Welcome to Selfneglect.org. My name is I. M. Abumaria and I am the developer of this website. I am a board certified Adult/Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP-BC). I am expected to graduate with a Doctor of Nursing Practice in April, 2017.
Our Mission
Our mission is to educate the families and friends of individuals with self-neglect about the basics of self-neglect. It is a free, educational, public service project that is available to anyone interested in self-neglect.
Our Vision

“Age is…wisdom, if one has lived one’s life properly.” Miriam Makeba
The vision of Selfneglect.org is to become the most popular website on the topic of self-neglect for lay people.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to provide unbiased, evidence-based information about self-neglect in order to educate the families and friends of individuals with self-neglect.
Our Message
- You are not alone,
- Self-neglect requires intervention, and
- Treating self-neglect can improve the individual’s life in most cases.
